Ebola test returned negative on patient in Kuching

KUALA LUMPUR: The Health Ministry confirmed that the clinical test on a suspected Ebola patient warded in Kuching has returned negative today.

Its director general Datuk Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah said the patient from Zimbabwe who is being treated for a breathing related infection at the Kuching General Hospital, was recovering.

"The patient is recovering and responding well to treatment," he said in a statement.

He added that the lab test on samples taken from the patient was done today (Sept 16) at the Sungai Buloh National General Health Lab (Makmal Kesihatan Awam Kebangsaan Sungai Buloh) and return negative of Ebolavirus.

"The ministry will like to clarify that to date, there is no Ebola Virus Disease (EVD) in the country, " he stressed.

He added that the ministry will continue to strengthen preparedness and response to face any possible EVD threat in the country.

"The ministry will monitor the situation and provide updates on any development from time to time through the Crisis Preparedness and Response Centre (CPRC)."
