Pengkalan Kubor: PKR refuses to remove party banners

TUMPAT: The PKR operations room in Pengkalan Kubor here has ignored requests by the Election Commission (EC) to remove banners which display the party's logo.

Four warnings have been issued during the last few days but party leaders blame the EC for only giving verbal warnings.

Kelantan PKR chairman Ab Aziz Ab Kadir said the EC should instead give written warnings to make it easier for the party to take appropriate action.

"They (EC) said that parties which are not contesting should not put up banners or flags with logos but we are the Pakatan Rakyat," he told reporters after a surprise visit by more than 10 EC officers to the PKR operations room in Telaga Lanas, Pengkalan Kubor, here today.

Ab Aziz said that following discussions with the EC officers, his party

agreed to shield the party logo but still refused to remove the banner placed at a two-storey building which was their operations centre.

"Their (EC) warnings only referred to the logo, so we will shield the logo.

The banner will not be taken down. We will do it at the latest by tonight," he said.

Besides the party logo, the banner also had the photographs of PKR advisor Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim and his wife, party president Datuk Seri Dr Wan Azizah Wan Ismail, as well as that of the deputy president Mohd Azmin Ali. - Bernama
