3,000 brave the rain to run in Klang race

KLANG: More than 3,000 people braved the rain to take part in the Oren Sport Royal Klang Town 2014 race which was held in conjunction with Malaysia Day.

The 5km and 10km run was flagged off by Klang Municipal Council (MPK) president Datuk Mohamad Yacob.

The event, which took place at Stadium Padang Sultan Sulaiman, was organised by Yayasan Kebajikan Klang (YKK), MPK and Oren Sports Group.

Organising chairman Low Siew Gee said the race, which was being held for the fourth year, aimed to raise funds for charity.

“We chose to hold the run on Malaysia Day because events like this bring people of different races and religions together.”

YKK chairman Dr Ooi King Chua thanked Oren Sports Group and other corporate sponsors for their support.

He said he was happy with the turnout and hoped that more people would sign up for next year’s race.

“Every year, we have foreigners participating in the race. We hope we will continue to have the support of the public as it is also a platform to promote Klang,” he said.
