Heart disease cases up

JOHOR BARU: The Johor Health Department says that Malaysians are prone to heart disease due to unhealthy lifestyle.

Speaking at the World Heart Day Run at the Johor Specialist Hospital recently, state Health Department director Dr Mohd Khairi Yakub said that Johor recorded 8,294 heart disease cases last year.

“In 2012, we had a total of 7,293 cases of people suffering from heart ailment.

“There were 116 open heart surgeries from the beginning of this year to August compared to 185 cases throughout 2012.

"The numbers show too many people are adopting an unhealthy lifestyle, which includes consuming unbalanced diet, lack of exercise, uncontrolled alcohol consumption and stress,” he said.
