More than 100 cases of infectious diseases detected among Kelantan flood victims

KOTA BARU: Kelantan recorded 102 cases of infectious diseases among flood victims in the state.

State health director Datuk Dr Zaini Hussin said the figure was recorded since the flood hit in the state on Nov 19 until yesterday.

He said it was detected among evacuees taking shelters at relief centres in three districts.

He added the districts are Bachok, Pasir Mas and Tanah Merah.

"Upper respiratory tract infections topped the list of infectious diseases recorded among flood victims with 69 cases.

"This was followed by skin diseases (27) and fewer (four)," he told reporters after handing over 30 sets of camera bodies to its enforcement division here today.

Dr Zaini said other infectious diseases are diarrhea and eye disease.

Despite the disease, Dr Zaini said the situation in the state especially at the relief centres is still under control.

"Our health staff will be monitoring the situation. Some of the patients are also urged to undergo regular medical check-ups," he said.

He added a total of 745 health staff and 130 officers would be on duty during this monsoon season.
