KUANTAN: Police have arrested 47 individuals following the recovery of 20 motorcycles and a car believed to have been stolen by them.
Kuantan police chief ACP Abdul Aziz Salleh said 25 out of 47 arrested were juvenile offenders below the age of 18.
"To curb the rampant motorcycle theft around Kuantan two special teams were formed on August 1 and as a result of the one-month operation, police recovered 20 stolen motorcycles and a stolen car around the Felda area," he said when met by reporters here today.
He said all the stolen vehicles were found with the registration number tampered and most of them had several parts changed and repainted to avoid detection.
He said police also found several motorcycle parts which had been dismantled thrown into a mining pool.
With the arrest,he said, the number of motorcycle theft had been reduced to 85 cases in August compared to 112 cases in the previous month. - BERNAMA
