HASSLE FREE: As users demand fast and easy payment solutions, U Mobile has introduced the QuickPay system for small businesses. Jasmine Lee, chief marketing officer of U Mobile, shares with the New Sunday Times how the company’s new solution brings convenience and ensures security

Question: What is U Mobile QuickPay?

Answer: U Mobile QuickPay is a mobile point-of-sale solution that allows enterprises and businesses to conduct card payments and transaction using their smart devices. It comes with an Europay, Mastercard and Visa (EMV) approved card reader. It enables small business owners to travel and receive payments from clients while away from the office.

Question: Who can use QuickPay? What are the requirements?

Answer: Any business owner with a legal business entity registered in Malaysia can use QuickPay. However, all applications are subject to further credit checks by U Mobile and the acquiring bank.

Question: How does it work and make payment easier?

Answer: Business owners can buy the QuickPay card reader from U Mobile and and pair it with any of U Mobile’s data plan. Then, they need to download the QuickPay mobile application into the smart devices. Once this is done, they can plug in the QuickPay card reader to the audio jack of their devices (smartphones/tablets), access the app and swipe customers’ debit/
credit card through the slot. They enter in the transaction amount with consumer details and signature to complete the transaction. The final receipt will be sent to the consumer via e-mail or MMS for reference.

Question: What are its advantages? How does it help businesses or individuals?

Answer: The idea is to allow entrepreneurs and SMEs to close sales and perform credit and debit card transactions without hassle anywhere. Simply put, they can take their businesses anywhere they go. The solution comes in handy for businesses that are constantly on the go, as well as enterprises that run without the presence of a physical store.

Question: How different is it from other mobile payment platforms?

Answer: U Mobile is offering a one-stop solution with the U Mobile QuickPay by handling all registration steps without consumers having to go through multiple parties.

Question: How secure is U Mobile QuickPay?

Answer: The QuickPay card reader is EMV approved and uses multiple layers of data encryption to ensure maximum end-to-end security. As such, it is very secure for consumers

Question: How much does it cost and are there recurring costs?

Answer: The QuickPay card reader costs RM250 per unit. However, the card reader is free with the subscription of U Mobile’s E88 plans. Quickpay is also available for other U Mobile plans. A one-time setup cost of between RM100 and RM150 is applicable depending on the U Mobile plans subscribed.

Question: What mobile devices are compatible with QuickPay?

Answer: The QuickPay card reader is compatible with iOS (version 6.x.x) and Android (version 4.x.x) operating systems.

Question: Do you see this service taking off in a big way in Malaysia?

Answer: As 50 per cent of transactions in Malaysia are made using credit and debit cards, we believe that this service will pick up speed in thecoming months.
