Govt urged to look into allocating special provisions for Immigration officers

PUTRAJAYA: The government has been urged to immediately look into the matter of allocating special provisions for Immigration Department officers.

Peninsula Malaysia Immigration Service Union (KPSIM) called upon the Home Ministry to consider providing Enforcement Incentive Payment of RM200 for each Immigration officers and a Special Incentive Payment of RM100 for officers who work at Immigration Detention Depots.

KPSIM president Khairil Niza Khairuddin said the rationale in the proposal was because several other enforcement agencies had already enjoyed similar incentives.

He said official letters and e-mails had been sent to the ministry since 2004 for the proposals but the union has yet to receive feedback on the matter.

Khairil Niza, who is commander at the Langkap Immigration Detention Depot in Perak, claimed that the RM916.8 million allocation for the Immigration Department as stipulated under the 2015 Budget was insufficient.

He said the amount was very small and does not commensurate with the tasks and challenges faced by Immigration officers today.

“It is difficult for officers to carry out enforcement activities if the state of logistics and infrastructure owned was inadequate and is in a dilapidated condition.

“The information and communication technology systems should also be given due attention by the government as technology was always being updated,” he told a press conference at Putrajaya Lake Club today.

He urged the government to conduct thorough research in making financial allocations for enforcement agencies based on priority, as such an exercise would allow the Immigration Department to achieve the goals and objectives in its duties.

He said KPISM was prepared to hold a meeting with the Home Minister Datuk Seri Ahmad Zahid Hamidi to discuss the matter further.
