Homedec expects sales to rise to RM150m

KUALA LUMPUR: The Home Decor and Design Exhibition (Homedec) expects sales to rise to RM150 million this year from RM140 million last year.

This would be driven by strong sales from kitchen and bathroom products, on which home owners traditionally spend the bulk of their renovation dollars, said Datuk Vincent Lim, president of CIS Network Sdn Bhd, which organises the exhibition.

"Home buyers spend about 30 per cent of their renovation budget on bathroom and kitchen products, and we see visitors spend their bulk purchase on these two at the Homedec," he said.

The number of visitors this year is expected to rise six per cent year-on-year to 150,000, he told reporters after opening the exposition here today.

The business-to-consumer exposition, inaugurated in 2003, is divided into two parts -- with the first being held from today till Sunday, and the second from October 30-November 2, 2014.

It houses more than 1,600 booths for over 500 local and foreign exhibitors to display their products.

Lim said Homedec is set to expand overseas next year, with plans to launch an exposition in Jakarta during the second half of 2015.

"We are taking local brands to Indonesia and it will be a platform for local companies to showcase their products," he said.-- Bernama
