Pleased with renovation work

GEORGE TOWN: BEFORE February, the Tanjung Bungah Market had not seen any upgrading work in the last 20 years.

But now, the market has been given an uplift worth RM1.82 million, together with the adjacent hawker centre.

While the upgrading process
is yet to be completed, the new
coat of paint, among others, has given the premises a new lease of life.

State Local Government and Traffic Management committee chairman Chow Kon Yeow said the upgrading work of the market is 97 per cent complete.

“The building has been given a new coat of paint, rewired and retiled. Ramps for the disabled have also been installed at various locations,” he said.

Chow was speaking to reporters during a site visit at the
market here, recently, along with Penang Island Municipal Council (MPPP) officers, as well as
Tanjung Bungah assemblyman Teh Yee Cheu and his service team.

He also said that apart from the Tanjung Bungah market, other places which were in the process of getting a facelift are the Padang Brown and Chowrasta markets, while a new market and hawker centre will be built in Batu Ferringhi.

The Tanjung Bungah Market is the biggest in the northern part of the island and is located in a dense housing area comprising of landed properties, condominiums and apartments.
