Tenants of council flats urged to keep premises clean

IPOH: Tenants of low-cost flats owned by the Ipoh City Council (MBI) have been advised to keep their premises clean to help reduce maintenance costs borne by the local authority.

MBI wants the tenants to at least take care of their own units, staircase, common area and keep the compound clean at all times.

It is managing four low-cost flats in Ipoh — Kinta Heights Flat, Waller Court, Sungai Pari Towers in Buntong, and Taman Harmoni Flats, also in Buntong. There are 1,272 families and tenants living at the four neighbourhoods.

MBI corporate affairs principal assistant director Normala Latiff said the residents are paying RM80 to RM130 monthly in rent.

“Every month, the council incurs about RM33,000 for the maintenance of these flats. The cost includes cutting grass, trimming trees, garbage collection and building repair works.

“Since tenants need not pay for maintenance, the least we ask of them is to help us to keep their units clean and not vandalise common property,” he said.

However, a spokesman from the State Public Housing Project Unit said the tenants are required to pay for repairs in their own units. By Diana Yeoh
