Clinics at all Terengganu flood relief centres

KUALA TERENGGANU: Each flood relief centre in Terengganu is equipped with temporary clinics to check on health condition of flood victims.

State Health, Women's Development and Community Committee chairman Mohd Pahemi Yusof said the evacuees are exposed to illnesses, especially water borne diseases.

He said the department has set up temporary clinics and health officials including doctors, will make regular visits at all relief centres.

"At relief centres occupied by more than 1,000 evacuees, a full team is on standby all the time," he told reporters in Wisma Darul Iman, today.

He said for the past three days, the State Welfare Department has spent more than RM725,000 to provide food supplies and daily needs to flood victims who had been evacuated to relief centres.

"We are also saddened with the incident in Setiu where a 13-year-old girl drowned in the well while following her grandfather to cast a net at a padi field in Kampung Jelapang, Setiu, yesterday evening," he said adding that those who are staying at low-lying areas should be alert about their children's safety.

Meanwhile as at 4.45 pm today, the number of flood evacuees rose to 3, 863 people from 975 families. They were evacuated to 36 relief centres in Kuala Terengganu, Setiu, Marang, Dungun and Besut.
