Navy helps transport toddler with heart problem to IJN

KOTA BARU: A two-month baby boy was taken on a mercy flight, courtesy of the Royal Malaysian Navy (RMN), for immediate examination and treatment at the National Heart Institute (IJN) in Kuala Lumpur today.

Nik Amsyar Nazran Nik Mustapha accompanied by his mother Salwani Mohamed, 40, was brought by an ambulance from Raja Perempuan Zainab II hospital to Sultan Ismail Petra airport in Pengkalan Chepa about 10.30am.

Efforts by local press to get statement from RMN officers failed but it was learnt that the baby was flown in a C 130 RMN helicopter from the airport to the Kuala Lumpur Hospital's playground.

From there, he was then taken by ambulance to the IJN and as a safety precaution, the baby was transported in an incubator.

Meanwhile, Salwani thanked all quarters especially the hospital and the RMN officers for helping her son.

"I really touched with their help and only God will reward them for their kindness," said the mother of five from Pasir Putih.
