KEPALA BATAS: A man cheated death when the Mercedes Benz he was driving caught fire after getting into an accident at Kilometre 120.9 of the North-South Expressway northbound near Kepala Batas, here today.
Seberang Perai Utara (SPU) police chief ACP Abdul Rahman Ibrahim said in the 6.45 am incident, the car driven by the man was involved in an accident with a lorry and an express bus before bursting into flames.
“Initial police investigations, found the three vehicles were travelling in the same direction from Sungai Dua towards Sungai Petani, Kedah and the accident was believed to have occurred when the bus which was on the left lane attempted to overtake the lorry in front.
“At the same time, the car which was on the right lane tried to avoid the bus before losing control and crashed into the divider on the right,” he said here today.
Abdul Rahman said the car then collided with the bus before skidding to the left of the road and went up in flames while the bus driver also failed to control his vehicle and crashed into the lorry before both vehicles veered to the left of the road.
The lorry driver suffered light injuries while the other two drivers were unhurt. – BERNAMA
