Cops and soldiers to conduct night patrols

SERDANG: Police and armed forces personnel will be mobilised to conduct night raids on illegal land clearing activities in Cameron Highlands.

Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak said the measure
was taken following his discussion with Sultan of Pahang Sultan Ahmad Shah, based on reports that such activities were frequently carried out by illegal immigrants
at night.

“I have directed Inspector-General of Police Tan Sri Khalid Abu Bakar and Armed Forces Chief General Tan Sri Zulkifeli Mohd Zin to send their troops so that a more comprehensive patrol can be carried out to nab the culprits,” he said
after opening the 2014 Malaysian Agriculture, Horticulture and
Agrotourism Exhibition at the Malaysian Agro Exposition Park Serdang yesterday.

He said stricter and more effective enforcement would be conducted with the cooperation of the Pahang government and the Federal
Government to stop the proliferation of illegal immigrants in the area.

Najib said Deputy Prime Minister Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin, who is also the Special Committee on Flash Floods in Cameron Highlands’ chairman, would be visiting the highlands tomorrow with Pahang Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Adnan Yaakob.

“I hope with the joint visit and discussion, more effective action will be taken to stem the problem of illegal farming.”

Floods and a mudslide at Kampung Raja in Ringlet and Lembah Bertam in the highlands on Nov 5 claimed five lives.
