Any partner will do for Wee Kiong

TAN Wee Kiong has made it clear he has no qualms about competing with a different partner at the Axiata Cup which starts on Thursday.

Wee Kiong said he is ready to pair up with either Hoon Thien How or Tan Boon Heong for the competition in which Malaysia are the defending champions.

His regular partner Goh V Shem is out with a right knee injury and is unlikely to play for the rest of this season. The duo are the top ranked pair in the country.

“Yes, I am ready to partner anyone the coach decides to play me with. It is not a problem for me,” said the 25-year-old.

“I do not think I will have too hard a time adapting as I have played with both Boon Heong and Thien How in training so it will not be entirely new to me.”

Wee Kiong echoed teammate Liew Darren’s sentiment that the team face an uphill task in defending the title but remains optimistic.

“Obviously without Lee Chong Wei, it will be difficult for us but I have faith in everyone in the team and believe we can do something.”

Chong Wei is out of the picture as he has been provisionally suspended by the Badminton World Federation for failing a dope test in August.
