Umno speakers told to be tactful, Hishammuddin

KUALA LUMPUR: No restrictions will be imposed on speakers in the Umno General Assembly this year but they have been told to be mindful of what they say.

Vice-president Datuk Seri Hishammuddin Hussein said those at the rostrum will be observed not only by delegates but also others in the country.

"Speakers should speak based on facts and not on their emotions because there are people out there who are interested in what we have to say," he said after chairing a meeting with the Motions and Speakers Committee.

Also present in the meeting were deputy president Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin, secretary-general Datuk Seri Tengku Adnan Tengku Mansor, permanent chairman Tan Sri Badruddin Amiruldin and speakers from the respective states.

Badruldin said those at the podium should refrain from slandering others and be professional in their approach when touching on any issue.

"Be enthusiastic if they wish to, be passionate, reach out to to the floor with their own style but don't hurt the feeling of others.

"They can talk about whatever issues but they need to be tactful and guided within the perimeters of the party and Federal constitutions," he said.

"It is their right to talk about the Malays but they have to remember there are others in the Barisan Nasional coalition. We are, after all a multi racial society."
