KL shares open lower on selling

KUALA LUMPUR: The benchmark FTSE Bursa Malaysia KLCI (FBM KLCI) opened lower this morning as market participants changed their game play to selling, dealers said.

At 9.01am, the key index stood at 1,817.20, down 12.71 points, after opening 9.34 points weaker at 1,820.57.

In the broader market, there were 174 gainers and 52 losers with 118 counters unchanged, 1,360 untraded and 26 others were suspended.

The FBM Emas Index was down 76.94 points to 12,527.11, FBMT100 Index lost 79.85 points to 12,205.32, FBM Ace fell 55.82 points to 6,350.15, the FBM 70 declined 67.37 points to 13,567.22 and the FBM Emas Syariah Index gave up 112.30 points to 13,021.48.

Sector-wise, the Plantation Index eased 11.33 points to 8,290.23, theFinance Index slipped 21.02 points at 16,312.14 and the Industrial Index was 2.16 points lower at 3,327.66.

Turnover stood at 96.21 million shares worth RM56.97 million.

Among heavyweights, Maybank down two sen at RM9.53, TNB lost 26 sen to RM14.04, Public Bank was flat at RM18.6 and Axiata inched down seven sen to RM7.05.

Among actives, Sumatec shed one sen to 25.5 sen, Focus Dynamics fell half-a-sen to 7.5 sen and TH Heavy Engineering was flat at half sen.-- Bernama
