Man burnt to death in stolen car boot

AMPANG JAYA: A construction worker was shocked when he heard screaming from a boot of a burning car in Taman TAR, Ampang, yesterday.

Ampang Jaya district police chief Assistant Commissioner Khairuldin Saad said the man saw the Proton Waja on fire following a heated argument between a group of men in the parking lot at about 10pm.

"When the witness arrived at the scene, he heard a heated argument in Tamil between four and five men the parking lot before he saw the Proton Waja razed in fire," he said when met at the scene.

Khairuldin said the man then saw about three or four men leaving the scene in a Mitsubishi Pajero.

"He immediately rushed to the razing vehicle and heard cried for help from the boot of the car and called 999," he said.

Khairuldin said firemen discovered the body of a man in his 30s over 70 percent burnt inside the boot.

He said fire and rescue department investigation revealed the car was set on fire by pouring petrol on the top of the vehicle.

Khairuldin added check on the car showed that the car was stolen in Sentul at about 9pm yesterday.

"The owner of the car had parked the vehicle in front of his house before it was stolen. We are still in the midst of investigating whether the car was stolen specifically for the purpose of killing the victim," he said, adding that the body was sent to Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia Hospital.

Khairuldin said the motive behind the incident was still being investigated and the case has been classified as murder.
