Hotel receptionist charged with raping Australian guest

KUALA LUMPUR: A hotel receptionist was charged two months ago with raping an Australian hotel guest who visited Malaysia to attend her friend's wedding.

Roaquin Radzmund Muhammed Reduan, whose case came up for mention before the Sessions Court today, is accused of raping the 27-year-old tourist in a room at a five-star hotel here on Oct 19.

The victim is a manager of a fast food restaurant in Australia. Her friend lodged a report, leading to the 25-year-old accused's arrest on the same day.

Roaquin claimed trial two days after the alleged incident, facing a maximum 20-year jail term and whipping if found guilty.

Deputy public prosecutor Norazlin Mohammad Yusoff informed judge Azman Mustapha that the prosecution has not obtained the chemist report.

Azman fixed Jan 8 next year for mention of the case against Roaquin, who remained under remand. The accused was represented by counsel Zamri Ibrahim acted for Roaquin.

Counsel Tania Scivetti conducted watching brief for the victim.
