PAC chairman urges klia2 safety regulations to be investigated

JOHOR BARU: Public Audit Committee (PAC) chairman Datuk Nur Jazlan Mohamed is urging the special audit committee set by the Transport Ministery to not only investigate the KLIA2 safety regulations procedure but to also take into account carrying a full investigation on the airport overall designs and development planning.

Nur Jazlan said PAC had submitted to the ministry a report of a year long investigation that it carried out on the construction of KLIA2 as there were some issues pertaining to the airport development particularly on the project costs which shot up from RM1.7 bil to RM4 bil.

"This is a necessary check and we urge the special audit committee to look into this as well and not only carrying a mere investigation on the pools of water and sinking ground at the new airport," he said.

Nur Jazlan said it is not wrong for PAC to suggest such investigations to be carried out as the overall KLIA2 audit performance will ensure the safety of all passengers meets the standards airport operational requirements and procedures.

It was reported that Transport minister Datuk Seri Liong Ting Lai had chided Nur Jazlan for not undertanding the motive behind the establishment of the committe by the ministry.

It was mentioned in the news report that Nur Jazlan had deemed the establishment of the committee as a waste of public fund and  is lopsided for only checking on the sinking ground and pooling water at the airport runway.
