GEORGE TOWN: IT was felines galore at the International Cat Competition at Tapak Pesta in Sungai Nibong, here, recently.

Organised by Malaysia Cat Club in collaboration with the state Veterinary Service Department, the competition saw the participation of 136 cats, comprising 60 pedigree and 76 domestic cats.

Malaysia Cat Club president Khalid Rashid said the event attracted cat lovers from all over the country.

““I see their passion as some had travelled all the way from East Malaysia to be part of the event,”” he said.

The cats were judged on their appearance, cleanliness and behaviour.

Xboy, a 9-month-old Sphynx, was the happy cat to walk away with the first prize in the ‘Best Kitten’ and ‘Best Short Hair Cat’ categories.

Xboy’’s owner is Mohd Yusri Shaari. The cat lover from Seremban, Negri Sembilan, owns 19 cats.

He bought the hairless Xboy for RM16,000.

Shaari said he wanted to show the public that the “ugly” cat was actually quite adorable.

He won a trophy, a 10kg bag of cat food and an electric oven.

Visitors saw more than 10 breeds of cats including the Persian, Somali, Siamese, Bengal and Birman hybrids.
