Perma donates to orphanage

KUALA LUMPUR: Thirty girls from the Sri Saradha Devi Illam orphanage in Rawang received early Christmas cheer, thanks to the  Selangor and Federal Territory Ceylonese Social Services Association (Perma).

Apart from providing the girls’  food provisions, school uniforms and shoes, Perma has initiated
tuition classes and imparted vocational skills.

So far, Perma has contributed RM12,000 in tuition fees alone, and thanks to the effort, three girls have excelled in their studies to win top academic prizes in public school exams.

Two other girls managed to secure tailoring jobs.

“It is our hope that the initiatives will assist them in adulthood and prevent them from falling into the social trap of poverty,” said Perma spokesperson Anusuyah Selvadurai, after its committee members paid a visit to the home, recently.

She added that the association’s members had taught the girls baking skills, held motivational workshops, and given career guidance and counselling.
