Refreshed for a heritage tour

Hanna Hussein indulges in a refreshing spa in Ipoh’s heritage street

THESE days, going to a spa for facial treatment is like a sweet escape. Though the treatment takes only two hours, it can put you in a holiday mood without having to travel.

I am one of those who love going to the spa and if the treatment helps make me look good, it will be a big bonus.

My spa indulgence does not have to be on home ground. It’s my habit to try new spas in places I visit.

One spa I don’t mind making a second visit to is De Skinz Beauty Centre in Ipoh’s heritage street, Jalan Lau Ek Ching. The four-year-old spa offers facial and body treatment, using Beaubelle skincare products from Switzerland, a holistic and solution-oriented approach to beauty and well-being.

There are three treatment rooms and a couple room — each complete with special lighting, music, decor and textiles that create a comfortable, plush environment.

The owners are certified beautician Chia Wen Jge, who has more than 10 years experience in the beauty industry, and her husband Bryan Khaw. She personally attends to customers, checks their skin condition and determines a suitable treatment.

For me, Chia recommends the 90-minute Aroma-Chroma Oxygenating face treatment that infuses chromotherapy, aromatherapy and oxygen therapy to treat a specific skin condition.

The products for the treatment come in four colour-coded packages — red for mature and dry skin conditions, yellow for pigmented skin, green for oily and acne-prone skin, and blue for sensitive and dehydrated skin. Since my skin is dry, Chia uses the red package.

The therapy starts with a pre-treatment foot soak, which uses bath salt that smells like sweet lavender, followed by a gentle massage, before I am ushered into the therapy room for a 15-minute shoulder massage.

The facial treatment begins with mild cleansing milk before using biovegetal enzyme for exfoliation. The treatment is calming.

The next step involved oxygenating skin cells using an oxygen stimulator machine. The breeze of the oxygen feels cold yet it freshens up my face.

“Oxygen enhances cell activity to absorb the active ingredients, which boosts oxygen and nutrient intake of the skin,” says Chia.

After the cooling oxygen therapy, the facial pores need to shrink to normal size and for this, Chia uses a soothing mask. The treatment continues with a few more steps, including eye gel and lotions.

At the end of the treatment, I am convinced that the treatment is worth the money. It not only leaves my skin feeling fresh, firm and radiant but my stress is gone too!
