Flood: 15,640 evacuated in Kelantan

Kota Baru: The flood in Kelantan has taken a turn for the worst with 15,640 people evacuated to 109 centres in all districts.

According to the latest report from the state operations room, the worst hit district is Pasir Mas with 7,595 people, Kuala Krai 2,629, Tanah Merah 1,429 and Kota Baru 1,280.

However, water seems to be receding with only five measuring points above the danger level compared to six yesterday.

In KUALA TERENGGANU, a total of 10,186 people from 2,921 families were housed at 134 relief centres.

Hulu Terengganu recorded the highest number of victims with 4,046 people from 1,262 families seeking shelter at 45 evacuation centres.

In Besut, 2,232 victims from 582 families have sought shelter at 25 evacuation centres.

In Setiu, 500 families comprising 1,904 people were moved to 22 relief centres while in Kemaman, 1,047 victims from 302 families were at 19 centres.

Three evacuation centres have been set up in Dungun with 952 victims from 269 families .

In KUANTAN, floods in the state-capital continue to deteriorate with 1,586 victims relocated to relief centres today morning compared to the 831 evacuees on Thursday evening.

At 9pm, six relief centres remained opened to provide shelter to victims from 395 families.

A police spokesperson said six villages were hit by the floods namely PPRT Kampung Kempadang, Pandan 2, Kampung Seri Damai Jaya Gading, Perkampungan Gudang Rasau, Taman Tas Jaya and Kampung Jaya Gading.

He said if the heavy rainfall continues to pour throughout the day then the number of evacuees could increase by late evening.

Two roads - Km34 of Jalan Kuantan-Maran and Km22 of Jalan Panching Utara-Sungai Lembing - continued to be closed to traffic as floodwaters had risen to 0.6m since Wednesday.
