Woman hurt as cops nab 55 in vice raid

JOHOR BARU: A Vietnamese guest relations officer (GRO) broke her right leg while trying to escape from a police raid.

She jumped 5m from the fourth floor of a shopping complex in Stulang here on Friday night.

In the 8pm raid conducted by
the Johor police Anti-vice, Gambling and Secret Societies Division,
a policeman was injured when his arm was bitten by one of the 55 foreign women arrested for prostitution.

In the incident, the 42-year-old Vietnamese GRO, who was also believed to be a prostitute, was entertaining her clients on the fourth floor of the duty-free shopping complex.

Upon seeing the policemen, she fled the premises and leapt from the fourth storey onto the third storey, and broke her leg.

Division commanding officer Deputy Superintendent Adzli Abu Shah said the suspect was among 55 foreign women from Vietnam and China who were detained.

“The raid was conducted at two entertainment outlets located on the third and fourth storeys of the shopping complex.

“The foreigners, who had violated their social visit passes by working as GROs, are also suspected of prostitution.”

Adzli said the policman who was bitten and the Vietnamese GRO received treatment from the Sultanah Aminah Hospital here.

The GRO was admitted, while the policman was given out-patient treatment.

All the suspects were detained for breaching the condition of their social visit passes and for not possessing valid entry permits.
