Illegal immigrant crackdown nabbed some 200 foreigners

BUTTERWORTH: Police rounded up close to 200 immigrant workers, including an infant, four women and three children in joint anti vice operation over two days.

The operation code named - Operasi Pencegahan Jenayah Bersepadu was held in a state wide raid between 10pm and 5am today.

The offenders, aged between one and 50 year old were detained for various offences including overstaying and not having valid permit or travel documents.

Police spokesman said apart from 144 Myanmar nationals, 52 other foreigners were also detained in the seven-hour operation.

“They included 25 Nepalese, 19 Bangladeshis, six Indonesians and two Vietnamese nationals,” he said adding that they were detained at various residential areas.
