KUANTAN: The number of evacuees rose to 108 victims from 27 families this morning as compared to 19 people from five families last night.
As at 10am, five relief centres had been opened at Kampung Chendor multipurpose hall (19 evacuees), SK Cherating (31); SK Sungai Ular(24); Sungai Lembing police station (seven) and SMK Pandan (27).
The evacuees were from Kampung Bukit Palas, Kampung Darat Jering, Kampung Melayu and Kampung Jelihang in Sungai Lembing, Kampung Chendering and Taman Bukit Rangin.
Two roads, Km34 of Jalan Kuantan-Maran near the Gambang Resort was closed to traffic while a 40-meter stretch near the Kampung Kempadang junction was closed to light vehicles after water rose up to 0.45m last night.
Continuous downpour had triggered the floods last night after clear skies on Saturday afternoon allowed some 1,400 victims who had been seeking shelter at relief centres since last Wednesday to return home.
