Free health checks at relief centre a blessing for flood evacuees

PASIR MAS: The provision of free health checks at the SK Sri Kiambang temporary relief centre here is a welcome relief for flood evacuees in need of minor medical treatment.

Noor Aidi Ismail, 58, from Kampung Serongga, said the services provided by the staff of the Kangkong Health Clinic and the Malaysian Armed Forces Medical Centre of the Pengkalan Chepa Camp enabled him to check his health status after three days of staying at the relief centre.

Noor Aidi, who suffers from heart disease, is grateful for the health checks since many of the evacuees may have suffered injuries due to the floods or are unwell.

"At least we know that our well-being and health are taken care of while we are here," he told Bernama at the SK Sri Kiambang relief centre today.

Rusni Sasilor, 25, spoke about her two-year-old child being treated by the medical staff after being bitten by insects while staying at the relief centre.

"I am thankful for this service. Alhamdulillah, my child is fine," she said.

Meanwhile, health officer Captain Dr Syed Amir Azfar Syed Ahmad said that they, together with Health Ministry (MOH) personnel, are focusing on three diseases, namely Covid-19, acute gastroenteritis (AGE) and conjunctivitis, adding that evacuees with prescriptions could also get the necessary medications during their stay at the relief centre.– BERNAMA
