PPSPPA: Discard food waste properly

BATU PAHAT: The Solid Waste Management and Public Cleansing Corporation (PPSPPA) has warned restaurant owners and food stall operators here to dispose of food waste properly to avoid clogging the drainage system.

Batu Pahat and Yong Peng PPSPPA assistant director Molzairy Yahya said restaurant owners and food operators should not throw food waste directly into the drains as it would disrupt the drainage system.

“They are advised to install food and oil traps in their premises to collect solid food waste and used oils and reduce the risk of the drains being clogged,” he said during a community cleaning operation in Taman Sembrong, Yong Peng, here.

“The corporation will work with the local authorities to take action against errant food outlet owners.

“Under the Solid Waste Management and Public Cleansing Act, they can be fined.”

Molzairy said the waste management contractors and PPSPPA would examine and clean areas where there were reports of flash floods, foul smell and drainage problems.

He assured the public that the cleaning contractors would carry out their scheduled maintenance on time. By Hafidzul Hilmi Mohd Noor
