Youth groups help flood victims

KUALA LUMPUR: MANY groups in the city have set up centres, counters and booths to collect aid for flood victims in the East Coast.

A 24-hour facility at the Mont Kiara National Sports Centre, operated by the Hybrid Touch Studio Sdn Bhd (HTS), has been collecting food, drinking water, blankets, diapers, baby formula and batteries since Dec 24.

Half of these items have already been transported to Kelantan by volunteer groups who are four-wheel drive enthusiasts.

According to HTS media and special projects chief operating officer Zakizamani Osman the roads have become inaccessible and therefore more 4WD vehicle are needed to help the victims.

“It saddens me that there are so many people suffering but for now all I can do to help is by collecting these items,” said Zakizamani.

1Malaysia For Youth (iM4U) volunteer Rooslia Roosli, 21 said that when the situation permits, she would like to go there and help the victims.

Adab Youth Garage activist Mohd Hafiszuddin Ariffin, 27, said more than 100 volunteers have come forward to give a helping hand to those who are affected by the flood.

“We constantly keep in touch with our team in the east coast to know the flood situation. We have been informed that many victims are falling sick and are in dire need of medical supplies.

“We also urge the public to donate basic items like food, clothes, toiletries, diapers, blankets and drinking water,” he said.

Another volunteer Mohd Kamaluyasir Mansor, 24, said he felt bad for the victims as this year the situation is really bad.

“I feel sorry for the old folks, children and pregnant women,” he said.
