Firefly Airlines receives flood aid from Penang DAP

GEORGE TOWN: Firefly Airlines received some 110 cartons of canned goods from the Penang DAP to be donated to flood victims in Kelantan today.

The items were handed over by the state Welfare, Caring Society and Environment committee chairman Phee Boon Poh at the Penang International Airport at 6pm here today.

The goods will be checked-in for tomorrow's 7am flight to Kota Bharu .

Meanwhile, Phee thanked Firefly for their assistance and said the contribution is the first batch to flood stricken victims in the east coast.

“Yesterday, we have sent a tonne of food items and essential goods via a lorry to Perak.

“Tomorrow, several other leaders from Penang, including myself, will head to Kelantan in the same flight to personally hand over the aid to the authorities there.

“We would like to thank Firefly for their help. This is just the starting of more to come from the Penang DAP,” he said.

Phee added he will be joined by an entourage of leaders on the flight to Kelantan tomorrow, led by DAP parliamentary leader Lim Kit Siang.

Phee also urged the public to donate more food items to their respective Welfare Department offices.

Those interested to contribute can head to the Caring Society Complex (Kompleks Penyayang) at Jalan Utama in George Town (Tel: 04-650-5259).

Alternatively, the public can also channel their donations to the respective district Welfare Department offices at:-

Balik Pulau - Kompleks Pasar Awam MPPP.

Kepala Batas - Wisma Persekutuan, Jalan Bertam, Kepala Batas.

Bukit Mertajam - 2nd floor, Wisma Hock Teik, No. 1778, Jalan Ciku.

Jawi - First floor, Block B, Kompleks Jabatan Kerajaan, Sungai Jawi.

Besides the Penang government, Firefly has also partnered with the Kulim Landmark Centre, Central Square Sungai Petani, Gabungan Pelajar Melayu Semenanjung-Barat Daya, Jabatan Belia & Sukan Negeri Pulau Pinang and other groups in Penang to help send flood relief aid to the east coast.

Firefly flies to Kota Bharu from Penang once daily.
