MACC detains PPS chairman over alleged involvement in false flood aid forms

KUALA LUMPUR: The Malaysian Anti-Corruption (MACC) has detained a Temporary Flood Relief Centre (PPS) chairman on suspicion of being involved in endorsing flood aid forms containing false information in 2022.

According to the source, the man in his 60s was arrested at about 11am while giving a statement at the MACC office in Kemaman, yesterday.

"The form in question pertained to the information of the head of the household under the name of his own biological child to obtain the government's compassionate aid (BWI) amounting to RM1,000, which the child was not eligible for," the source added.

Furthermore, the source explained that the RM1,000 BWI was a government initiative to provide assistance to every head of the household affected during the Northeast Monsoon or impacted by other disasters declared by the Central Disaster Management Committee (JPBP).

Meanwhile, Terengganu MACC director, Hazrul Shazreen Abd Yazid, when contacted, confirmed the arrest and the case is being investigated under Section 18 of the MACC Act 2009.

He added that the suspect was released on MACC bail after his statement was recorded.
