Jewellery shop in Giant hypermarket robbed

KUALA LUMPUR: Three robbers armed with a pistol and hammers fled with an undisclosed amount of gold in a jewellery shop heist at the Giant hypermarket in Batu 9, Cheras, today.

In the 12pm incident, the trio wearing ski masks took two minutes to rob the MJ Jewellery shop located on the first floor of the building.

A source close to the investigation said a suspect armed with a pistol stood guard, while two others cleared out the jewellery trays at the shop.

"There were three staff at jewellery shop at the time of the incident but fortunately, none of them were harmed. Based on the witness statements and closed circuit television recordings, police believe the suspects came to the shop via the escalator, while a fourth suspect waited in a Honda Stream getaway vehicle at the ground floor," he said.

He said the police were now studying the footage from the shop's CCTV.

The source said based on the evidence at the scene, police believe one or more suspects may have been injured while smashing the jewellery glass displays and clearing the tray.

"Police found three blood stains at the scene, which most likely belonged to robbers. We will sent it to forensics for further analysis,” he said.

He added that checks on the Honda Stream’s WRY 4241 registration number revealed it was a false plate number.

Meanwhile, Kajang police chief Assistant Commissioner Ab Rashid Ab Wahab, when contacted confirmed the incident, saying investigation were on-going to track down the suspects.
