Former MIC president offers to be middleman to solve party crisis

KUALA LUMPUR: Former MIC president Datuk Seri S. Samy Vellu expressed his willingness to be the middleman to resolve the party's internal crisis.

Samy, who led MIC for 31 years since 1981, however said he will only assume the role if requested by the Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak.

"We cannot cross the boundary and say that we want to be the middleman, but if the prime minister ask me to call the two parties (president and deputy president) to discuss, then I will," he said.

When asked if the prime minister had asked him about the party issues, Samy said the prime minister was well aware.

"Yes, he did asked me about it, but I did not say anything," he said.

He added that it should be left to the prime minister now to examine the problem and do the necessary to avoid the party from falling apart.

"Now that the prime minister is looking into it, I will wait for instructions from the prime minister to mediate or not," he added.
