90 per cent of public sector to offer cashless payment system by year-end: Husni

PUTRAJAYA: The government is aiming to get 90 per cent of the public sector to offer e-payment service options by the end of the year.

Second Finance Minister Datuk Seri Ahmad Husni Hanadzlah said this is part of the goverment's efforts to create a cashless payment system, similar to the United States and Sweden which conducted less than seven and three per cent of their transactions in cash, respectively.

Husni said the current take up rate stood at 34 per cent, which is far from the targeted 90 per cent.

"We have seen a substantial increase in the number of services that have adopted the e-services in its operations to 79 per cent or 10,734.

“We hope to boost the e-services participation by all ministries,” he said after launching the Public Sector e-Payment Conference 2015, this morning.
