Mother of two succumbs to injuries after daring escape from ex-husband

ALOR STAR: A mother of two who was seriously injured in a daring escape from her ex-husband succumbed to her injuries five days after the incident at the Sultanah Bahiyah Hospital today, without regaining consciousness.

The victim, Rosniza Fadzil, 30, was pronounced dead at about 4.06pm while receiving treatment at the Intensive Care Unit for her severe head and body injuries, including a broken leg.

Rosniza was mowed by a car when she jumped out of her ex-husband's car, her hands bound, in the Thursday morning incident.

Her 53-year-old ex-husband had allegedly rammed Rosniza while she was riding a motorcycle to work, tied her hands and whisked her into his car.

She put up a fight while the suspect was behind the wheel and jumped out of the car in a bid to escape, but was rammed by another car coming from behind.

Rosniza's sister Rosliza, 35, said the couple divorced for the third time three months ago as the victim could no longer bear the physical abuses at the hands of her ex-husband.

Rosliza claimed that the suspect was a violent and aggressive person.

"Two weeks ago he barged into our house and strangled Rosniza with a rope but luckily our father managed to stop him at the time," she claimed.

Police had since arrested the suspect at his home in Baling.

Rosniza — who had two sons, aged 5 and 11 — was laid to rest at Kampung Lengkuas cemetery here today.

Meanwhile, Kota Setar police chief Assistant Commissioner Adzaman Mohd Jan said police have reclassified the case as murder under Section 302 of the Penal Code.
