Nicol David goes down in Windy City final

KUALA LUMPUR: Egypt's Raneem El Weleily made Nicol David wait a little longer for an 80th WSA Tour title after winning the Windy City Open final in Chicago today.

World No 2 El Weleily recovered from dropping a marathon first game to register a 14-16, 12-10, 11-7, 11-7 win in 58 minutes.

It was only El Weleily's fourth win over the world's top-ranked player in 22 meetings, with three of those coming in finals matches.

Nicol, 31, suffered a second defeat this year having also lost in the Tournament of Champions quarter-finals in January against England's Alison Waters before El Weleily went on to win the title.

The Egyptian also avenged a painful defeat to Nicol in the World Championship final in Cairo, her hometown, last December and again in the Cleveland Classic final last month.

Both players will return to action in May when the next major tournament, the British Open, is held.
