Sivasangari goes down fighting in Cleveland

KUALA LUMPUR: It was a heartbreaking defeat for S. Sivasangari at the Squash in The Land in Cleveland, United States on Saturday.

Fourth seed Sivasangari fought valiantly but was ultimately defeated 13-11, 11-8, 12-14, 6-11, 11-9 by world No. 6 and top seed Georgina Kennedy of England in a 64-minute battle.

It was the world No. 16's fourth defeat to Kennedy in five outings.

Sivasangari also lost in five sets in the third round of Windy City Open in Cleveland last month.

Kennedy will face second seed Nour El Tayeb of Egypt in the final.

Nour defeated third seed Olivia Weaver of the US 11-4, 11-6, 11-8 in the other semi-final.

National coach Ajaz Azmat said Sivasangari should have won the first game.

"However, Sivasangari gave her best, and it was unfortunate that she could not beat Kennedy.

Ajaz added: "Sivasangari's growing confidence level suggests she will soon be challenging and beating top players like Kennedy."

Following her semi-final outing, Sivasangari is expected to maintain her world ranking.

She is set to feature in the London Classic on March 27-April 1.
