MAIP launches e-zakat app

KUANTAN: The state Islamic Religious Council (Maip) will hold more awareness programmes for employers as many of them are not keen to promote tithe paying obligations among its staff.

Its deputy president Datuk Seri Wan Abdul Wahid Wan Hassan has expressed his dissatisfaction that various public agencies and private companies lacked the commitment to share information on tithe payment schemes offered by Maip.

“Employers should help us encourage their Muslim staff to pay tithes, if they can afford it. It is an obligation and our tithe collection centre can help explain to their staff,” he said during a press conference after launching the e-zakat application here, yesterday.

Present were Pahang Tithe Collection Centre senior general manager Datuk Halidan Md Daud and Maip secretary Datuk Ahmad Hairi Hussain.

He said to date, 130,000 payers were listed under the tithe collection system but only 74,000 of them paid their tithes last year.

On e-zakat, he said the new application would enable the public to check and settle their tithe payments online.

He said users could also print the statement without having to visit the tithe payment office.

He said the public could also use the application to lodge a report on eligible tithe recipients who did not receive the assistance from Maip.
