Two men actively involved in robberies and car thefts nabbed in Kelantan

KOTA BARU: Two suspects believed to be actively involved in robberies and vehicle thefts in the state, were arrested by police at Kampung Pauh Lima, here yesterday, said Kelantan police chief Datuk Mazlan Lazim.

He said in the 10.50pm incident, a police team was trailing behind a vehicle with three suspects in it traveling along Kota Baru - Salor road.

“Realising they were being followed, the suspects tried to escape by crashing into the police car and a public transport resulting in two shots being fired to stop the suspects’ vehicle,” he said.

In the incident, police arrested a 29-year-old man while two others managed to escape, he told reporters when met after a programme at Mukim Tegayong mosque held in conjunction with the 208th Police Day celebration here, today.

He said the second suspect, a 28-year-old man was picked up at about 1pm this afternoon in the village following public tip-off.

Mazlan said the two suspects had previous criminal records and the car used was a stolen vehicle. Police are now hunting for the third suspect.

Both suspects were being detained for further investigation under Section 307 and Section 379A of the Penal Code.

In another development, Mazlan said the community should work together with the police to help tackle crime, especially drug trafficking.

“Public cooperation is of vital importance because it can facilitate police task in curbing criminal activities in the state,” he said.

He also reminded parents to continuously monitor their children’s activities outside the home to ensure they stayed away from criminal activities and militant groups. - BERNAMA
