Robbers fled with RM100,000 in jewellery shop heist

BUKIT MERTAJAM: Two robbers armed with hammers fled with RM100,000 worth of gold jewellery in a heist at a gold shop at Jalan Pasar here today.

In the 12.35pm incident, two-men with full-faced helmets entered the shop while the shop’s four salespersons were busy attending to two customers.

One of the robbers then used the iron hammer to smash the glass display, while the other robber snatched the gold necklaces and accessories under the display.

The duo then fled on a Honda EX5 motorcycle.

Central Seberang Perai police chief assistant commissioner Rusli Mohd Noor said the wipe-out took two minutes.

“Checks on the motorcycle’s registration number turned out to be fake," he said when contacted.

The case will be investigated under Section 395 and 397 of the Penal Code for gang robbery with attempt to cause death or grievous hurt.
