Man dies after falling into a drain near Bazaar Ramadan

PUTRAJAYA: A staff with the Natural Resources Ministry died after he fell into a one-metre-wide drain near a Ramadhan bazaar here today.

The victim, identified as Muhammad Kamal Salleh Hodin, was believed to have succumbed to severe internal head injuries and died at the scene in the 5.30pm incident.

It was learnt that the 34-year-old civil servant tried to jump over the drain to get to the bazaar but failed.

A witness, who only wanted to be known as Shahrin, 40, said he rushed to the scene when he saw a group of people gathering near the drain.

“I was at the bazaar to buy food to breakfast when I saw several people gathered at a nearby drain.

“I was shocked to see blood flowing down from the victim’s head,” he said.

Kamal said two off-duty nurses, who happened to be at the bazaar, rushed to the scene to provide help but failed in their bid.

A team of medical assistance, who arrived at the scene a few minutes later, declared the victim had died of his injuries at 5.50pm.

A post-mortem would be conducted on the victim’s remains at Putrajaya Hospital here.
