ALOR STAR: One of three suspects involved in the theft of luxury cars yesterday was arrested early today.
State Criminal Investigation Department chief Assistant Commissioner Mohd Nashir Ya said the 34-year-old suspect from Kuala Lumpur was detained at about 4am at a hotel in Penang.
“The suspect had previous various criminal records including violence.
"Police are intensifying efforts to track down another two suspects,” he said in a press statement today.
The theft had led to a shootout with the Special Task Force on Organised Crime (STAFOC), and a car chase from Kuala Kedah to Pendang.
It was reported yesterday that the three suspects were flagged down by the STAFOC team but they sped off with a stolen Honda City and tried to escape by crashing into the team’s car at a petrol station in Kuala Kedah in the 11.54am incident.
The suspects then drove off the car to the petrol station in Pendang and stole a Proton Persona before speeding off in the direction of the North-South Expressway at about 12.50pm incident.
The three suspects then escaped with a stolen green Golf GTI from the Juru Volkswagen showroom located in Bukit Mertajam in Penang about 2.25pm.
