KL shares remain higher at mid-morning

KUALA LUMPUR: The benchmark FTSE Bursa Malaysia KLCI (FBM KLCI) remained in positive territory at mid-morning today on continued buying momentum in most heavyweights, dealers said.

At 11 am, the benchmark index gained 8.87 points for 1,857.53, after opening higher at 1,850.71.

On the scoreboards, the FBM Emas Index improved 50.22 points to 12,785.99, the FBMT100 Index increased 51.39 points to 12,452.59, while the FBM Emas Shariah Index expanded 16.60 points to 13,305.76.

The FBM 70 gained 25.70 points to 13,752.86 and the FBM Ace advanced 60.11 points to 7,391.14.

On a sectoral basis, the Finance Index jumped 113.30 points to 16,510.55, and the Industrial Index earned 1.48 points to 3,416.72.But the Plantation Index trimmed 1.92 points to 7,715.83.

On the broader market, market breadth was positive with gainers outpacing decliners 359 to 266, while 319 counters were unchanged, 871 untraded and 21 others suspended.

Turnover stood at 1.32 billion shares worth RM640.30 million.

Among actives, EA Holdings added one sen to 13.5 sen, PUC Founder and Asia Bioenergy earned half-a-sen each to 17 sen and 10 sen respectively, while Nova MSC eased half-a-sen to 22.5 sen.

Of the heavyweights, Maybank and Axiata rose two sen each to RM9.50 and RM7.03 respectively, and Public Bank was six sen higher at RM19.66, while TNB was flat at RM14.52.
