Permatang Pauh by-election: No untoward incident reported

BUKIT MERTAJAM : State chief police Datuk Abdul Rahim Hanafi said he was satisfied that the Permatang Pauh by-election nomination process today went smoothly without any untoward incident.

Abdul Rahim said the 10,000 supporters from both Barisan Nasional and Pakatan Rakyat sides had behaved well throughout the three-hour nomination process held at the Institut Kemahiran Belia Negara (IKBN) Bukit Mertajam in Jalan Berapit here.

When questioned on the usage of hailers by Pakatan supporters outside the nomination hall compound, Abdul Rahim said police would look into the matter.

The Election Commission had set a rule that the usage of hailers during nomination day is prohibited.

"Phase one of the Permatang Pauh by-election went well so far and we have not received any official complaint.

"I hope phase two (campaigning period) and phase three (polling day) will also run smoothly," he told reporters.

The polling day has been set on May 7 while early voting process will take place on May 3.

There are a total 71,890 registered voters in the constituency.
