Busy bee Sam, now flying solo

KUALA LUMPUR: Popular award-winning actor Shaheizy Sam is quite the busy bee, now that he is flying solo.

The 31-year-old who emerged the big winner at the recent Anugerah Bintang Popular Berita Harian, clinching the Most Popular Artiste award, has been tied up in charting his own portfolio after his four-year contract with MIG Talent ended in December last year.

“I am working on rebranding myself. I have appointed a three to four-member team to assist me in charting my career the way I see fit. They are responsible in managing my schedules.

“In the next couple of months, I’ll be extremely busy. But then again, I kind of enjoy moving on my own. So far, it has been working well for me. it is easier for producers and directors to get in touch me. They can call me directly,” he told the New Straits Times.

Sam who started acting at 12 in the film Sama Tapi Tak Serupa, feels blessed by all the support from his fans.

“And I feel that I should return their gesture by showing them good and quality work, which means being more selective when it comes to acting jobs as well as acting roles in the future,” he said.

So, when word of him planning a wedding surface recently, Sam finds it a little strange especially when his mind is fully focused on managing his career.

But the younger brother of actress Zizie Ezette denied the tittle- tattle, even though he admitted that he had always harboured hopes of getting married.

“Don’t get me wrong. I love the whole idea of being married. The intention to do so has always been there, just not for the time being. I enjoy doting on my nieces and nephews. So I’d be lying if I were to say that I don’t want any children of my own. So, I am leaving this marriage part to fate.”

“Honestly, there are no plans of me getting hitch anytime soon,” he said.

Sam said this when asked on the rumours about him planning to wed actress Syatilla Melvin, 24, whom he has been romantically linked with. It is said that the reception will be held this year.

“Oh well, I suppose the rumour must have come about following my admission to the Press recently when I said Syatilla is my closest female friend. People should not speculate more than what it really is,” he said with a sigh.

Sam and Syatilla have been close friends for the past six years. Both families know each other. Sam has also admitted that Syatilla has all the criteria of his ideal woman.

“The issue concerning marriage is not something one should take lightly. I am a very simple man. If and when I do plan a wedding, I will share the good news with everyone. I don’t see any reason to be all secretive about getting hitch. I guess wedding is not on my cards right now,” he added.

Sam, whose hit films include Adnan Sempit, Evolusi KL Drift 2, Ngangkung and Kongsi, has recently wrapped up filming Interchange, a mystery thriller directed by Dain Said, who also gave us Bunohan.

Sam plays a police detective Azman who seeks the help of a forensic photographer in solving a serial killer case.

The cast includes Indonesia’s Nicholas Saputra of Ada Apa Dengan Cinta fame and Iedil Putra of Terbaik Dari Langit fame. Also acting in the movie is award-winning Indonesian actress Prisia Nasution.

“Detective Azman is a very complex and dynamic character to play. There is this different emotional range that I had to portray,” said, Sam whose other films Rembat and Police Evo are due to be out soon.

Filming Interchange took 35 days to complete and it is slated for release next year. All scenes were shot in Kuala Lumpur.
