Cyclists travel from Ipoh to witness enthronement of Sultan of Perak

KUALA KANGSAR: The scorching sun has not deterred avid cyclists Zamzuri Suaib and his friends to cycle from Ipoh to witness the enthronement of Sultan of Perak Sultan Nazrin Muizzuddin Shah.

The 41-year-old cyclist said he could not afford to miss the event.

“My friends and I had decided on Tuesday to cycle here to witness this historical event,” said the father of three.

Zamzuri, from Ulu Kinta, Ipoh, said they usually cycled to Kuala Kangsar with a larger group, however, due to the public holiday in conjunction with the enthronement ceremony today, many could not join them.

“Many of our club members preferred to watch the enthronement at the comfort of their homes,” he said.

Zamzuri added he and his friends are amazed by the enthronement ceremony that was rich with tradition and unique practices from the Malay sultanate.

The group arrived at about 11am and posed in front of three cannons that were used for the 21-gun salute.
