College students robbed by illegal gambling joint workers

IPOH: Two college students, who had earlier gambled at an illegal gambling joint, were forced to give up their winnings when three men, believed to be caretakers of the joint, took their money and mobile phones.

A police source said the suspects had approached the victims who were dining in a fast food outlet in Pengkalan here at 4pm on Monday.

“One of the suspects demanded the victims to hand over their ATM cards with the pin number claiming they were acting on their employer’s instruction,” he said, adding that the suspects threatened to beat up the victims if they failed to comply.

“Fearing for the lives, the boys surrendered the cards,” said the source, adding that the suspect then proceeded to the nearest ATM to withdraw money.

Before leaving, the suspects took away an Iphone 5s and Samsung Note 2 which they claimed were stolen from them.

When contacted, district police chief Assistant Commissioner Sum Chang Keong confirmed the incident and investigations were underway.
