18 arrested, 64 laptops, computers seized in Stagg raids

KUALA LUMPUR: Police arrested 18 people including foreigners in seven simultaneous raids against illegal online gaming syndicates in Sentul and Klang, today.

The 3pm operation saw 33 personnel from Special Task Force for Anti-vice, Gaming and Gangsterism (Stagg) raid Metro Prima Kepong Sentul, here and six outlets in North Klang, Selangor.

Its principal assistant director Senior Assistant Commissioner Khairi Ahrasa said checks revealed the premises raided were newly opened in secluded areas, only for regular customers.

“All premises raided had installed closed-circuit television cameras as well as specially designed doors to detect, prevent and delay police from entering the premises. This is to allow their customers to escape,” he said.

Khairi said among the 18 suspects nabbed were seven Malaysian men and a woman.

“Police also arrested six foreigners who worked as shopkeepers. We have also detained four customers who were at the premises during the raid,” he said adding that all arrested were aged between 22 and 45.

Khairi added that police seized 64 laptop and desktop computers used for online gaming, five tablet computers, seven modems and 12 mobile phones to facilitate investigations.

The raiding party also seized RM5,039 in cash.

The case, he said, is being investigated under section 4B (a) of the Common Gaming Houses Act 1953 for offences related to dealing in gaming machines.

Khairi added tgat police will also inform Tenaga Nasional Bhd and Syarikat Bekalan Air Selangor Sdn Bhd to cut off the premises' electricity and water supplies.
